The third iteration of Blue is an Agreement consists of a sequence of decaying orbits with a moving light. This light slowly moves across the space, caressing the textures, creating reflections, optical phenomena and shadows and filling the space with dynamic indirect light. At the end of each orbit it returns to its starting point to begin its rotation again. These orbits traced the pathway of sun through the building over the different seasons. The light moves through the courtyard, café and concert hall of theatre venue Kaai Studios, discovering and attending to the space through light. A movement of colour also travels though the building, reconstructing the architecture, and creating different atmospheres. The movement of light and colour is accompanied by smoke that seeps through and connects the spaces, and a soundscape that amplifies the existing sounds of the building. The installation is durational, and the audience are invited to take their time, and recline in the space, or experience the installation from different positions.

Rather than making the theatre space disappear as it is designed to do, this work gives attention to what is already here, to the space we are inhabiting now, together. As the work invites us to give time to observing the building while it continues to be active, the silhouettes of people working in the building bring its ongoing functions into the work.

Blue is an Agreement is an ongoing, site-specific exploration of how light can be used to shape perception, and invite attentiveness and reflection in everyday spaces. Opening to questions of how we organise our attention, and explores other possible ways of being and doing together, through light.
